PSNI investigates claim woman sexually assaulted by seven men in Derry

Police said that at about 22:30 GMT on Tuesday, a man in his 30s heard a thump at the front entryway of his home in the Churchlands Road zone.

The man didn’t open the entryway and it was then that two shots were discharged through the entryway and struck him.

He has been taken to emergency clinic for treatment, police said.

The PSNI said two men were seen leaving the zone and heading towards the Winston Way region following the occurrence.

  • Police have portrayed the shooting as a “fierce assault for which there is no defense”.
  • “There is a bad situation for assaults, for example, this in our general public,” they added.
  • Police have bid for data about the shooting.

Sinn Féin MLA Caoimhe Archibald has denounced the shooting and said “there is a bad situation for weapons on our roads or activities like this”.

“These activities should stop promptly and those capable ought to get off the backs of the network,” she said.
